Jozo Simunovic takes dig at Rangers senior man during Celtic Q&A

By Harvey Byrne

Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has humorously taken a dig at Rangers senior man Kenny Miller by alluding to a tackle he made on the Scotsman as his best ever.

The 22-year-old centre-back made a sliding challenge on Miller during the recent 5-1 win over Rangers, which caught the attention of onlookers after the Croatian sent the Scottish veteran flying.

The tackle went unpunished by the referee, but Miller himself slammed the challenge after the match, claiming Simunovic used “excessive force”.

“Broony’s Broony so you are not going to complain too much, but he knew what he was doing. The Simunovic one in the first half? Honest to god,” told Miller, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I was trying to get out the way of it. If I decided to ride it, there was the potential to be hurt. I appreciate he did play the ball, but what’s the term used now – ‘excessive force’? There was definitely excessive force in that.”

Now, young centre-back Simunovic has taken a dig back and during a question and answer session on the official Celtic Twitter account he didn’t outright say that was the best tackle he’s ever made, but he was certainly referencing it.

Simunovic has been a part of the Celtic team for two years now after signing from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 for an undisclosed fee.

He had struggled to make an impact in his first year at the club, playing just 11 times in the Premiership and was even close to moving to Torino last summer.

However, he has proven a good squad member for Brendan Rodgers this season, playing in 23 of their so far unbeaten 35 league matches.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops have agreed a deal with English club for this 19-year-old.
