‘Sir Jim Ratcliffe to reject Ruben Amorim summer resignation at Man United’

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has no intention of allowing Ruben Amorim to resign as Man United manager if he tries to walk away this summer.

The Portuguese boss has endured a difficult time since he joined the club back in November, replacing Erik ten Hag.

While Man United have reached the Europa League final, where they are set to play Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday (21 May), things have been different domestically.

The Red Devils currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, with just 39 points from 37 games, after failing to win any of their last eight league matches.

Ruben Amorim resignation stance clear

Amid that dismal run of form, Amorim has not held back with some scathing criticisms of his side, which have raised plenty of eyebrows.

It is also understood that Amorim has previously suggested he regrets taking over at Man United, after leaving a successful spell at Sporting CP in Portugal for the role midseason.

All of that has led to a number of questions about his long-term future at Old Trafford heading into the summer.

There have been suggestions by some pundits that Man United could sack Amorim if they lose the Europa League final.

According to the latest report from The Times though, the only way the 40-year-old will not be at Old Trafford next season is if he attempts to walk away.

Even then, it is noted that Ratcliffe – who controls the sporting department of the club through INEOS – is expected to rebuff any attempt to resign by Amorim and instead try to talk him round.

Those in charge at Man United have apparently been encouraged enough to keep him by that form in the Europa League, and his skills as a man-manager.

It is also noted that there is currently no indication that Amorim will attempt to resign ahead of next season either, although ESPN have reported he had to be talked down from leaving once already in January..

Man United manager plan makes sense

Football Insider Verdict

There has been a considerable turnover of managers at Old Trafford in recent years, with none lasting very long or making much of a positive impact.

As a result, at some point it feels as though Man United are going to back to bring some stability and a long term plan to the club.

In Amorim, they do have someone who has at least shown he can do that in the past during his time with Sporting.

It is also clear that this is a squad that needs strengthening in the summer, and if they can do that in the image of their manager, he will be in a better position to deliver success.

With Man United making moves for the likes of Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, it also appears as though the club are ready to back their manager in the market.

Consequently, a change now when those plans are already being set in motion would seem strange, although given all that, Amorim will surely have to show signs of progress next season to stay long term.
