Sky Sports: Ex-Ibrox midfielder eager for Rangers manager talks after Caixinha axe
By Danny Wright
Billy Davies is eager to enter talks with Rangers about the managerial vacancy after Pedro Caixinha was sacked on Thursday, according to a report.
Sky Sports News claims on their official Twitter account that Davies, 53, is keen on a return to Ibrox after spending part of his playing days there as a midfielder in the early 1980s.
Davies has been out of work since 2014 following back-to-back spells with Nottingham Forest which resulted in him being sacked on both occasions.
The Glasgow-born manager has only ever had one post-playing spell in Scotland when he bossed Motherwell between 1998 and 2001, where his only accolade was the November manager of the month in 2000.
This is not the first time that Davies has made an effort to take charge of Rangers as last month, the ex-Derby boss made a stunning accusation about missing out on the job in 2014 due to a smear campaign being launched against him.
Football Insider Verdict
Davies seems to really want a chance to be Rangers manager but right now, he really isn’t someone who would be good for the club. The Gers can never seem to move away from being in the spotlight and Davies isn’t a man who will come in and just get on with his job. Controversy has followed him in his career and that simply is not what is wanted. Dave King needs to avoid taking a cheap option to replace Caixinha. Although that may be hard to do, there aren’t many names out there who are unemployed that strike as someone who could take the club up a level.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that the Gers must splash the cash and bring in this 46-year-old manager.
