Sky Sports pundit delivers glowing verdict on Tottenham goal-machine

Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee believes Tottenham goal-machine Dele Alli is worth ‘an absolute fortune’.

The 21-year-old midfielder has set the Premier League alight this season with a stunning run of form, where he has contributed 17 goals and seven assists from 35 appearances.

He has added a further four goals and four assists in cup competitions, handing him one of the most prolific records of any midfield player in Europe this season.

But Cottee admits that Tottenham took a massive gamble in signing him from MK Dons several years ago, although insists that their gamble has paid off.

Speaking live on the Premier League Daily Show on Sky Sports on Wednesday, Cottee delivered a glowing verdict on the player’s meteoric rise. He said:

“His game has improved his season, and for what he’s achieved already, it always proves the point I’ve always said about their being quality players in the lower leagues, and give them the chance of playing with better players, you can pick up some real diamonds.

“Let’s not forget that two or three seasons ago, he was at MK Dons, albeit doing well there.

“Credit to Spurs, they’ve taken a chance on him because they paid a lot of money, I think it was an initial £5million for him, what is he worth now? An absolute fortune.”

Alli’s remarkable form for Tottenham this season has seen him talked up as the next English superstar destined for a move to a top European club like Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Spanish news outlet Diario Gol reported on Monday that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was keen to see the Tottenham star develop into the next Galactico.

Gareth Bale was the last British player to seal such a lucrative move, joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in a then-world record fee of £80million.

But Alli himself has revealed he could be powerless to resist the lure of a move to one of Europe’s elite in future, despite admitting he is enjoying life at Tottenham.

In other Tottenham news, Chelsea are prepared to hijack a move from their Champions League rivals for this £40million-rated Spurs star.
