Sky Sports pundit predicts Everton clash v Burnley
By Abigail Withey
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Everton will secure a win over Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
Sean Dyche’s side will travel to Goodison Park this weekend to face the Toffees in their seventh Premier League match of the season.
Burnley are currently five places higher than Ronald Koeman’s side in the Premier League table, but Merson has predicted that the Blues will snatch a 2-0 win at home.
“Everton will have to be very patient against Burnley,” Merson wrote on the Sky Sports website.
“I watched Burnley the other day and I was left wondering how they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and drew with Spurs and Liverpool, because they never really looked like scoring against Huddersfield.
“I thought they were poor but then again they did a job.
“Last season Burnley were excellent at home but this season it seems to have reversed and it’s their away form that has been impressive. That being said, if Everton can remain patient I think they will break Burnley down eventually to pick up another home win.”
The Toffees’ home clash follows their 2-2 draw which they secured against Apollon Limassol earlier in the week during their second group stage clash of the Europa League.
After the Everton boss added nine new players to the club over the summer, hopes were high entering the Premier League campaign.
However, after a string of tough opponents including Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United in consecutive weekends the Toffees failed to secure the points they so sorely needed.
The Blues currently sit in 14th place in the current standings on just seven points, while upcoming competitors Burnley are in ninth position.
After their clash against Burnley and the international break, Koeman and his squad will travel to the AMEX to face newly-promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion.
