Sky Sports share major Isak and transfers update as Newcastle accounts released

Newcastle fans have been provided an update on Alexander Isak’s contract situation and future transfers after the official release of the club’s accounts, according to Sky Sports.

Due to his exploits at St James’ Park over the last two seasons, notching 40 goals in the Premier League, Isak has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

With Eddie Howe’s side currently sitting sixth in the league table, three points outside the top-four spots, Newcastle have been warned of losing their Swedish superstar should they miss out on Champions League qualification.

The Magpies would secure a spot in Europe with a win against Liverpool in the EFL Cup final on Sunday 16 March, but with this only being the Europa League, there is concern that stars could seek an exit.

However, a new update from Sky Sports after accounts highlighted a 28 per cent revenue increase from summer 2023 to summer 2024, puts the club in a good position to secure the forward’s future and add more talent around him.

Newcastle in stronger position to keep Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [4 March, 5:34pm], Keith Downie said: “It’s important to note that these financial figures, and strong ones, posted by Newcastle United take into account the period of summer 2023 to summer 2024.

“The summer of 2023, Newcastle invested heavily in their playing squad, spending £125m, so it doesn’t account for the last two transfer windows that Newcastle have failed to sign anyone.

“My understanding is that because things have been quiet in the last two transfer windows, Newcastle will be in a much stronger position to add new faces this summer, and talk to the likes of Alexander Isak over potentially extending his contract at the club.”

Eddie Howe to start back at square one without Champions League football

Football Insider verdict

Whether the Magpies receive a monetary boost ahead of the summer or not, extra money is no use without footballing incentives to keep their best players at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes is still being linked with Man City, while Anthony Gordon was also the subject of transfer interest from Liverpool during the winter transfer window.

Newcastle could quite easily lose these key players to other clubs once the summer transfer window opens, but that is far less likely if Howe can lead this team to a Champions League spot this term.

Newcastle face plenty of competition for Premier League places.

They face competition from Man City, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham and Aston Villa, with the positions third to 10th separated by just six points.

The Magpies have an incredibly tricky run-in at the end of the season, facing the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton in the last three games, but these players need to fight with everything to keep the squad together.
