Solskjaer told ‘your media mates won’t save you’ after Man United manager twist – pundit

Frank McAvennie has slammed Gary Neville for refusing to criticise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he remains under pressure at Man United.

The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, couldn’t believe what he heard from Neville on Sunday night.

On Sunday, Man United were beaten 5-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford, causing serious questions to be asked over Solskjaer’s future.

On 26 October, The Telegraph reported Solskjaer has three games to save his job.

Speaking in the aftermath of Sunday’s game, Neville compared Solskjaer’s plight to that of Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.

Both managers took the reigns at Old Trafford before Soslkjaer and both won silverware during their respective spells.

For this reason, McAvennie claims it is wrong to compare the managers and insisted pundits like Neville are trying to “protect their mate” instead of criticising a “failing” manager.

“I was listening to Neville at the weekend,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He has it all wrong. He was saying Mourinho and Van Gaal never did anything at Man United.

“They both won trophies. That’s not nothing. Mourinho won the Europa League and the League Cup.

“I was sat thinking ‘really’?. I think there is a certain amount of bias there because of who Ole’s mates are in the media.

“That’s all this is, old players trying to protect their mate. The club needs to stop listening to pundits and do the right thing.

“If it was Mourinho still in charge, or any other manager, I think the calls for him to go would be too strong.

“He’s not doing a good job. Last season he lost 6-1 to Tottenham at home and this season it is 5-0 to Liverpool.

“Ole has failed, it’s time to move on.

His mates in the media won’t save him forever.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed a £600m Man United reveal is ‘hard for fans to take’ after the hammering by Liverpool.
