‘Someone’s having a laugh at me’ – Gary Neville in disbelief over what he was told before Leeds’ games vs Chelsea and Liverpool

Leeds United have left many Premier League supporters stunned after a shock 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s job is under pressure at Leeds, with Football Insider revealing that he had two games to save his job, starting with Man City, and he gave Pep Guardiola a run for his money.

After goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, Leeds came close to beating Man City, foiled by a Phil Foden winner, before finally getting all three points against a startled Blues side.

Although the Whites are only two points above the relegation zone, Premier League safety is now a real target, and Gary Neville was there to witness the victory before preparing for their game against Liverpool on Saturday, 6 December.

Gary Neville set to be in attendance for back-to-back Leeds United games

The former Man United defender was on co-commentary for both of Leeds’ last two home games, and while speaking to Peter Drury, he revealed his surprise when being given his job for the week.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast (5 December), he said: “Someone’s having a laugh at me at Sky, aren’t they? You get the programme, with Leeds-Chelsea on Wednesday, then you get Leeds-Liverpool.

“You’re thinking, ‘Is that right? I’ve got to go to Leeds-Chelsea and Leeds-Liverpool?’ I’ll just get my hood up and a helmet on!”

Leeds, understandably, have a strange relationship with Neville, given that he used to play for their biggest rivals, and many fans become frustrated by his commentary on their games.

Daniel Farke is facing multiple injury setbacks ahead of Liverpool

Those watching the game from home will have to mute their television if they do not want to hear Neville’s commentary, but anyone at Elland Road will have full focus on the pitch.

Farke is already without Sean Longstaff, as well as Dan James, after sustaining a hamstring injury, and now, Leeds could be without Ao Tanaka following his spectacular long-range effort.

The Whites appear to have unlocked a new formation which is working wonders for them in recent Premier League games, but it remains to be seen if the manager will stick to what works.

Arne Slot could welcome back Conor Bradley, with Jeremie Frimpong making progress, but the Reds’ squad is more than talented enough to cause issues at Elland Road.

Both teams are struggling for form right now, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
