Son Heung-Min and Jude Bellingham react to James Maddison’s devastating update
James Maddison was left distraught on social media in a message to the Tottenham supporters following an update to an injury.
Maddison had found form at the right time for Spurs, scoring in their Europa League semi-final first-leg against Bodo/Glimt, but his evening was cut short after limping off with an injury.
The midfielder went on to miss the following two fixtures, and it has since been revealed Maddison will be out for the rest of the season, meaning he will be unavailable for the club’s Europa League final clash with Manchester United.
It’s a cruel blow for the England international, who struggled with consistency earlier in the campaign but had become an increasingly influential figure in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Tottenham fans labelled the team “cursed” after Maddison’s injury, following a season disrupted by injuries to several key players across the squad.
The midfielder responded with a personal message to supporters on social media, expressing his heartbreak at not being able to feature in the final.

James Maddison set to miss Tottenham’s Europa League final showdown
Following the news of his injury, the England international posted on Instagram to say:
“Gutted. Just absolutely gutted. We’ve had our sights on that European final in Bilbao from day one of this campaign. So to accept not being able to take part out on that pitch with the boys is really tough to take.
“Injuries are just part of this game that can be so cruel at times. But I truly believe that it can be a special night for my football club. Bring on the 21st. All together.”
Maddison’s heartfelt post earned plenty of reaction from across the football world, with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham commenting, “Get well soon Sheriff”, while Jordan Henderson left a heart emoji. Spurs teammate Pedro Porro added: “Love you my bro.”
Others, including Son Heung-Min, Jack Grealish and Andy Robertson, showed their support by liking the post.
The midfielder had only recently worked his way back into Tottenham’s starting XI on a more consistent basis, following suggestions that Maddison had a fallout with manager Ange Postecoglou earlier in the season after he had been regularly rotated despite his creative influence and attacking output.
Despite Spurs’ underwhelming domestic campaign, he has enjoyed an impressive individual season, recording 12 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Ange Postecoglou’s future to hinge on Europa League final result
Meanwhile, Postecoglou’s position remains under scrutiny with Tottenham languishing in the league, sitting in 16th place.
However, Football Insider has revealed that Postecoglou could remain at Tottenham and could keep his job if Spurs manage to win the Europa League, with the final offering a potential lifeline.
Lifting what would be the club’s first major silverware in 17 years could drastically shift the mood around the manager and help silence growing criticism.
