Son Heung-min to quit Tottenham? ‘Enormous’ update today from top source

Tottenham have a “big” issue to resolve as captain Son Heung-min’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the 32-year-old has been an “enormous” part of the club on the pitch and brings money in from South Korean supporters.

Son could be heading into his final six months at Tottenham after so far failing to agree a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire in June 2025.

The South Korea international has spent the past nine years in north London after joining Spurs in a £22million deal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Research conducted in 2022 by Tottenham’s front-of-shirt sponsor AIA revealed the club are now supported by 12 million South Koreans due to Son’s influence.

The attacker has scored seven goals and laid on six assists this season despite Ange Postecoglou’s side struggling on the pitch, leaving them sitting 12th in the Premier League table.

Borson revealed it will be a significant hit for Tottenham if they fail to resolve Son’s contract situation.

He told Football Insider: “Missing out on the Champions League makes a big impact on their PNL, so the owners will want to be as successful as anybody.

“They have got some big issues coming up with some of their big players.

“Son is going to be out of contract at the end of the season.

“He has been an enormous part in terms of quality on the pitch but also from a commercial perspective in South Korea.

“If you look at the number of fans that come over to watch him, that’s going to be a bit of a hit for them.”
