Sources: AC Milan plot Jean-Philippe Mateta move after news from Crystal Palace

AC Milan are interested in signing Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta and are keeping close tabs on his contract situation, sources have told Football Insider.

Milan considered a move for the 28-year-old in the summer, but were dealt a blow when they missed out on European football while Palace qualified for the Conference League.

The France international prioritised the opportunity to play European football, but with Milan now pushing towards the top of Serie A, they could reignite their interest.

Mateta‘s contract talks at Selhurst Park have since delayed due to disagreements over his wages, raising questions about his long-term future at Palace.

As things stand, his deal is expected to expire in 2027, and Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Crystal Palace could be forced to cash in on Mateta as a result.

Jean-Philippe Mateta contract talks stall

Crystal Palace had hoped to extend Mateta’s stay at Selhurst Park, with talks having taken place over a long period as Football Insider first revealed in October 2024.

Mateta remains a crucial part of Oliver Glasner‘s side, having scored eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions in what has been a strong start to the season.

However, they remain some distance apart in negotiations over his wage demands, with the striker demanding more than Palace are willing to pay as things stand.

While they remain keen to commit the striker to extended terms, there is a growing feeling they could decide to cash in rather than risk him running down his deal.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in October that Crystal Palace could accept offers for Mateta after struggling to make progress in ongoing contract talks.

Crystal Palace stance on Mateta exit in January

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 24 November that Mateta is considering leaving Crystal Palace and is already assessing his options.

However, any deal would likely come at the end of the season, with a January move considered highly unlikely given his importance to Glasner’s side.

Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace will turn down offers for Mateta in January after also rejecting moves during the summer window.

Mateta was subject to a number of offers during the summer, with Tottenham, Liverpool and Atalanta all making moves throughout the window.

Liverpool held talks with Mateta’s representatives, while Tottenham saw a late enquiry dismissed, and Atalanta saw a £30million offer turned down.
