Sources: AFC Wimbledon respond to new Bristol City bid for Jack Currie

Bristol City have had two bids for AFC Wimbledon defender Jack Currie rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

Currie, 21, is regarded as one of the best young prospects in the EFL and Bristol City are keen to bring him to Ashton Gate as they look to strengthen at left-back.

Bristol City have seen their opening two offers for the Englishman turned down by League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon, but the Robins are trying to get a deal over the line before Tuesday’s (31 January) transfer deadline.

Currie has made 32 appearances for the Dons so far this season, scoring one and assisting two.

The defender, who has previously been on the radar of Leeds, has excelled in his first season in the EFL after spending last season on loan at National League South outfit Eastbourne Borough.

He registered three assists in 33 outings on the south coast, helping Boro into the playoffs.

Currie signed a two-year deal at Wimbledon in April 2022, keeping him at the club until the end of next season.

The London club also hold the option to extend his deal a further 12 months.

Currie, who came through the ranks at Plough Lane, has proven himself adept at lining up as a left-back, as well as a left wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation.

AFC Wimbledon sit 10th in League Two, just three points adrift of a playoff place with 19 games left to play.

The Dons are seeking an immediate return to the third tier following relegation last season.

Bristol City are 17th in the Championship but have built a healthy seven-point buffer to the drop zone.

Should Currie complete a move to Ashton Gate, he will be competing for first-team action with Jay Dasilva and Cameron Pring.
