Sources: Arsenal fear Kieran Tierney’s season now over in crushing blow
Arsenal fear Kieran Tierney’s season could be over with a knee injury sustained on international duty, Football Insider understands.
The left-back, 24, was absent from Monday’s (4 April) 3-0 Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace and the prognosis does not look good.
An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that the club fear Tierney could be facing a lengthy absence with the knee injury.
It could require surgery if specialists decide in the coming days that rest will not heal the problem.
Losing Tierney would be a devastating blow to Arsenal’s hopes of securing a top-four finish.
The defender, who Football Insider understands is valued around the £50million mark, has been a key player since signing from Celtic in the summer of 2019.
The left-back has been linked with a shock move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer window.
Tierney’s replacement in the side for the Palace loss was Nuno Tavares – who was hooked at half-time by Mikel Arteta after a torrid first-half display.
As quoted by the BBC post-match, Arteta revealed the left-back’s injury is “not looking good”.
The Scotland international, contracted until 2026, has played 25 times for Arsenal in all competitions this term.
That is despite suffering an ankle injury that sidelined him for much of the festive period.
Tierney has been widely tipped to assume the Arsenal captaincy when current skipper Alexandre Lacazette’s contract expires in June.
Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, speaking to Football Insider, has insisted (28 February) that there is a “100%” chance of the left-back being handed the armband.
The former Celtic man has played 87 times since joining Arsenal for a reported £25million fee.

He has notched four goals and 12 assists, and lifted the FA Cup in 2020.
