Sources: Arsenal make up minds on signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin after ‘huge’ update

Arsenal are cooling their interest in Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Football Insider understands.

The Londoners are have been linked with the 25-year-old as they step up plan to recruit a new striker this summer.

But a source with knowledge of Arsenal’s recruitment plans has told Football Insider that Calvert-Lewin is not currently a top target.

They are worried about the number of injuries he has suffered and his difficulties coming back from them.

Arsenal are nonetheless firmly in the market for a top-class centre-forward in the next transfer window.

As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday (30 March), the profile the club are looking for is a proven, powerful operator under the age of 24.

“Huge” funds are being set aside for fee and wages for the potential signing.

Arsenal missed out on their top target Dusan Vlahovic in the January window, with the striker joining Juventus instead.

Calvert-Lewin was another name under consideration by the Gunners.

However, a season blighted by injuries has restricted the England international to just 11 appearances across all competitions.

He has three goals and one assist to his name from those games.

His contract at Goodison Park runs until the summer of 2025.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s January exit has left Mikel Arteta shorting in the striking department.

Arsenal

The Gunners have only Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as centre-forwards options currently.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season.
