Sources: Arsenal striker signing plan revealed after Callum Wilson latest

Arsenal will not pursue a January move for Callum Wilson despite speculation linking them to the Newcastle United forward, sources have told Football Insider.

Reports have suggested that the Gunners, alongside Chelsea and Man United, are “on alert” over a potential move for the 31-year-old in the final week of the window.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 January) that Newcastle will demand a total package worth £20million if Wilson is to leave the club this month.

Eddie Howe’s side are only willing to accept permanent and obligation-to-buy loan offers for the England international.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Arsenal are ready to “keep their powder dry” in January and will likely not sign a new forward.

The Gunners are keen to add a marquee striker to their ranks in the summer window later this year as they look to become a force in English football.

Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have attracted criticism from fans and pundits alike this term for their lack of potency in front of goal.

Wilson is just one of several Newcastle stars being monitored by clubs this month – with Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron also under offer at present.

Eddie Howe’s side are struggling to do business of their own due to Financial Fair Play restrictions and could have to sell first-teamers to make new signings.

Former Bournemouth star Wilson has hit eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
