Sources: Aston Villa keeper Filip Marschall agrees to join Gateshead as medical completed

Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall has agreed a loan move back to Gateshead, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old has undergone a medical with the non-league outfit and is set to finalise the move imminently.

Villa have given the green light to the deal to enable the rising star to get regular game time.

England Under-19 international Marschall is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Villa Park and signed a new contract last August.

He was on the bench for the Boxing Day defeat to Liverpool but is behind the senior keepers in the club’s pecking order.

Marschall spent the second half of last season on loan at Gateshead making 19 appearances and keeping six clean sheets to help the North-East club win promotion to the National League.

Football Insider first revealed on 6 January that he was in talks about returning to the club on loan – and starlet has now reached a full agreement with the Tynesiders.

The youngster has made eight appearances for Villa’s various youth sides this season and even captained the Under-21s in an EFL Cup clash against Portsmouth.

Marschall has an FA Youth Cup winners medal on his CV after forming part of the side that beat Liverpool 2-1 at Villa Park in the 2021 final.

Gateshead are struggling after returning to England’s fifth tier.
