Sources: Aston Villa pull Calum Chambers U-turn after last-gasp twist

Aston Villa could now accept loan offers for defender Calum Chambers as they try to get him off the books this week, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 February) that clubs in Turkey will now explore a move for the 29-year-old before the Super Lig window shuts on 9 February.

Turkish sides failed with moves for Chambers last summer (2023) and could now return for his services late in the mid-season window.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery took the unusual step of confirming to the media that the defender was available in early January.

Villa had only been open to allowing Chambers to depart permanently, but will now consider loan offers in what is a new U-turn for the Midlands club.

In a last-gasp twist on transfer deadline day last week (1 February), the England international rejected three permanent exits from Villa Park.

West Brom were widely reported to be among the sides to swoop for his signature.

Chambers was on the bench for Villa’s 5-0 away win at Sheffield United on Saturday (3 February) but does not figure in the long-term plans of Emery.

He has made just three appearances totalling 188 minutes of action so far this term.

The ex-Arsenal defender is under contract until June 2025 after joining on a free transfer in 2022.
