Sources: Aston Villa ready to pounce and seal last-gasp Matteo Guendouzi deal
Aston Villa are ready to pounce and look into sealing a late-window deal for Marseille star Matteo Guendouzi, sources have told Football Insider.
The former Arsenal man is one of Villa’s top targets as Unai Emery works on recruiting a top-class central midfielder ahead of next Tuesday’s cut-off.
The Midlands outfit have held talks with Marseille over a deal for Guendouzi, who is valued at around the £30million mark, and discussed offering a player in part-exchange.

It is believed that Villa have suggested Morgan Sanson as part of a cash-plus-player deal.
Marseille could be willing to green-light the exit of Guendouzi by next week and Villa are hopeful a deal can be agreed.
Emery has already made personal contact with Guendouzi and explained how he sees him fitting into the Villa team.
It is believed the former Arsenal man is keen to return to the Premier League and be reunited with his former manager.
Guendouzi spent four years in the Premier League with the Gunners after the north London side signed him from Lorient for £7million in 2018.
He went on to make over 50 top-flight appearances for Arsenal, and was also involved in the run to the Europa League final in the 2018/19 season.

After slipping down the pecking order at The Emirates, Guendouzi was sent out on loan to Hertha BSC in the 2020/21 season and then to Marseille in the season after.
The 23-year-old shone during his temporary spell back in France and Marseille decided to trigger the £9m option-to-buy in his loan deal in July 2022.
