Sources: Aston Villa ready to smash transfer record on ‘huge’ signing in ‘massive’ new spree
Aston Villa are preparing to smash their transfer record again this summer with another “huge” spending spree, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Midlands giants will be one of the biggest spenders again in the main window despite massive outlays in recent years.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens are prepared to fund a “huge” overhaul and back Steven Gerrard to the hilt.

Gerrard has made it clear behind the scenes he does not believe the current squad is up to the mark and needs vast changes.
Villa are likely to spend over £150million on new signings and are expected to once again break their transfer record.
That came last summer with the £33m capture of Emiliano Buendia, one of many big-money signings of recent summers who failed to live up to expectations.
There will be some high-profile exits to free up space in the squad and on the wage bill, including some of those who arrived for major fees in the recent windows.
As first revealed by Football Insider soon after Gerrard took over, the manager was alarmed by what he felt was a lop-sided squad with too many wide attacking players.
Philippe Coutinho arrived on a loan-to-buy deal in January that has proved to be a success and Lucas Digne also joined from Everton in a £25m deal.

Edens and Sawiris have sanctioned spending of more than £320m on transfers since promotion from the Championship in 2019.
It has been made clear Gerrard will be handed further “massive” funds, the source added, to strengthen a squad that has underperformed again this season.
