Sources: Aston Villa starlet Filip Marschall in talks to join Gateshead

Gateshead are in talks to re-sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the North-East club and helped them win promotion to the National League.

England U-19 international Marschall is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Villa Park having impressed in the club’s youth ranks.

The club have given the green light for Marschall, who was on the bench for the Boxing Day defeat to Liverpool, to go on loan again this month.

Discussions are underway over a deal in which the keeper will head to the fifth-tier outfit.

Marschall has made eight appearances for Villa’s various youth sides this season and even captained the Under-21s in an EFL Cup clash against Portsmouth.

He made 19 appearances for the Heed last season, keeping six clean sheets to help secure promotion.

The stopper has represented England at Under-19 level and also has an FA Youth Cup winners medal on his CV, forming part of the Aston Villa youth team that beat Liverpool 2-1 at Villa Park in the 2021 final.

Gateshead are struggling this season as they sit 20th in the National League, winning just four of their 24 games this season.
