Sources: Barnsley in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United star Matty Longstaff
Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff is in advanced talks to join Barnsley, sources have told Football Insider.
The League One club are putting the finishing touches to the capture of the 22-year-old on loan with an option to buy.
Newcastle have told Longstaff he is free to find a new club after slipping down their midfield pecking order.

Negotiations will continue on deadline day as Barnsley look to get a deal over the finish line.
Longstaff, who has come through the ranks at Newcastle’s academy, is under contract until 2023.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Mansfield Town after failing to impress Eddie Howe.
This came after he turned out just five times for Aberdeen during his first loan move of last season.
He failed to complete the full 90 minutes on any of those five occasions.
He is also yet to make an appearance under Howe and wasn’t afforded minutes in the club’s EFL Cup clash against League Two Tranmere last week (24 August).
Despite bursting onto the scene with a debut goal against Man United in a 1-0 win back in 2019, Longstaff has only made 20 senior appearances for his boyhood side.
He made five appearances in last season’s Premier League but they all came under Steve Bruce.

Newcastle have bolstered their defence and attack this summer, signing Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Alexander Isak.
The Magpies are next in action against Crystal Palace on Saturday (3 August).
