Sources: Barnsley join race to sign Luton Town forward Admiral Muskwe

Barnsley are rivalling Fleetwood to sign Luton forward Admiral Muskwe, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hatters have given the green light to Muskwe, 24, going out on loan to get regular first-team football.

Barnsley and Fleetwood are keen to bolster their attacking options before the close of the transfer window and have enquired about signing Muskwe.

Luton boss Nathan Jones has indicated his willingness to loan the striker out in the closing stages of the window despite his involvement this season.

Muskwe has made three appearances so far in the new campaign – including a start against Swansea City earlier this month (20 August).

The Zimbabwe international has notched two goals and one assist in 26 outings for the Hatters since joining last summer (2021) – starting just 12 times.

The forward came through the ranks at Leicester City – scoring 31 goals in 93 outings for the Foxes’ youth sides.

Muskwe is no stranger to a loan move – having been shipped out to EFL sides Wycombe and Swindon during his time at the King Power Stadium.

Luton have no fewer than six strikers on the books at Kenilworth Road at present.

Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris got the nod during the win over Cardiff City on Tuesday (30 August).

Fleetwood Town's Highbury Stadium

Barnsley have endured a sluggish start to their League One campaign following last season’s relegation – sitting 16th in the third tier.

Fleetwood sit two places above the Tykes after drawing four of their first six league games.
