Sources: Bayern Munich in pole position to sign Man United star Raphael Varane
Bayern Munich are now in pole position to sign Man United defender Raphael Varane next month, sources have told Football Insider.
The 30-year-old centre-back is entering the final six months of his United contract and could be sold in January to raise funds.
Varane signed a three-year contract with United after joining from Real Madrid in a £41million deal in 2021, with another year available if triggered by the Red Devils.

As it stands, Varane is free to talk to overseas clubs in January regarding a free transfer in the summer.
As revealed by Football Insider in November, there has been big interest in Varane’s signature from Saudi Pro League clubs.
However, it is now understood that Bayern Munich lead the race to sign the French international if he leaves Old Trafford next month.
The German giants are eager to add a new defender to their squad for the second half of the 2023/24 season with Kim Min-Jae set to head off for Asian Cup duty while Noussair Mazraoui will head to the Africa Cup of Nations to represent Morocco.
Despite playing a key role in United’s squad last season, Varane suffered a poor start to the current campaign and has fallen down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order.

The four-time Champions League winner has played just 520 minutes of Premier League football despite injuries to Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez.
However, Varane has started to make a comeback in United’s lineup in recent weeks after playing the full 90 minutes against West Ham and Aston Villa this month.
