Sources: Bayern Munich ready shock move for Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier

Bayern Munich are plotting a shock move for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier in the next fortnight, sources have told Football Insider.

Bayern are searching for a new right-back before the close of the transfer window on 1 February and have set their sights on the 33-year-old.

Newcastle owners the Saudi-based Public Investment Fund could reluctantly accept an offer for Trippier to boost their transfer kitty.

Financial Fair Play restrictions have prevented Eddie Howe’s side from doing their own business this month.

A potential exit for Trippier would shock Newcastle fans due to his status as a key man for Eddie Howe’s side.

The veteran has started 26 games in 28 total appearances this season and has worn the captain’s armband on many occasions.

The England international has notched eight assists across those outings but has been criticised by fans and pundits alike in recent months due to several high-profile mistakes.

Trippier has already had success in one European move, winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid in the 2020-21 campaign following his exit from Tottenham.

The right-back’s contract at St James’ Park is set to run until June 2025 following his most recent extension 12 months ago.

He has managed three goals and 18 assists in 81 games since moving to St James’ Park.

Tino Livramento, who joined Newcastle last summer (2023), would be the favourite to become the first-choice right-back for Howe if Trippier were to depart.

The Magpies sit 10th in the Premier League this term with injuries ravaging the squad.
