Sources: Bayern Munich register interest in signing Chelsea striker Werner

Bayern Munich have set their sights on signing Chelsea striker Timo Werner, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Bundesliga giants are in the market for a centre-forward who can provide cover and competition for Roman Lewandowski and can eventually replace him.

A German source has told Football Insider that Bayern have a “concrete interest” in luring Werner, 25, from Stamford Bridge this summer.

New manager Julian Nagelsmann is a huge admirer of the Germany international and knows him well from their time together at RB Leipzig.

Chelsea are open to offloading their 2020 signing from Leipzig, as this site first revealed on 10 March.

This comes as they work on signing a world-class centre-forward this summer, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland their top target.

Chelsea are also keen on Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku but Haaland is their number one choice.

Werner failed to set the Premier League alight in his debut campaign after arriving for a fee of around £45million last summer.

He scored 12 goals and provided 15 assists from 52 matches in all competitions and has not convinced Thomas Tuchel or the Chelsea coaching staff.

A return to his homeland is a serious option for Werner and a move to Bayern would certainly appeal.

One top German club who will not be signing him, as revealed by Football Insider last Saturday, is Dortmund, who have rejected the chance to take the Chelsea man in part-exchange for Haaland.

In other news, Chelsea are submitting an extraordinary £130million straight-cash offer.
