Sources: Bayern Munich returning with £10m+ bid for Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier
Bayern Munich have had a loan-to-buy bid for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier rejected but are planning to submit a new bid, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (19 January) that German giants were plotting a shock move for Trippier, 33, before the transfer deadline on 1 February.
It is believed the right-back, 33, is “very keen” in the move, but Newcastle are adamant he will not be allowed to leave the club this month.
Nevertheless, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Bayern are weighing up returning with an improved offer for the defender’s services in which the buy option could be beyond the £10million mark.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (20 January) that Newcastle want to raise a minimum of £60million in transfer sales in the near future to help their Financial Fair Play situation.
The Magpies have been unable to sign players in the January transfer window after heavy spending in earlier windows.
Trippier, who has often worn the captain’s armband for Eddie Howe’s side, has notched eight assists in 28 games so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
However, the 33-year-old has been criticised by fans and pundits alike in recent months due to several high-profile mistakes.
His contract at St James’ Park is set to run until June 2025 following an extension 12 months ago.
Trippier has racked up three goals and 18 assists in 81 games since moving to St James’ Park.
He would leave Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth as right-back options if he were to depart the club before the 1 February transfer deadline.

Bayern are keen on Trippier amid injuries to Noussair Mazraoui and Bouna Sarr.
The England international has already seen success in Europe, winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid in the 2020-21 campaign.
