Liverpool are planning to offer Sadio Mane a blockbuster new contract that will see him end his career at Anfield, Football Insider understands.
The Merseysiders are aware of strong interest from Real Madrid in the attacking star, who turned 28 last month, going into the next transfer window.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club are willing to hand Mane an extended deal after an incredible two seasons in which he has been one of the driving forces in their domination of European and domestic football.
His current deal, signed in November 2018, runs until the summer of 2023.
The wide forward will have turned 31 by that point but a new deal would effectively end any hope of Real signing a player hugely admired by Zinedine Zidane.
Football Insider revealed in March that the Spanish giants have made the Senegal international one of their top targets and already working on the viability of a huge offer to prise him from Anfield.
Transfer fees and wages are set to tumble across even the biggest leagues going into the next window, which may not open until the end of August, two-and-a-half months later than normal.
But the game’s superstars like Mane – who came fourth in last year’s Ballon D’Or vote for the world’s best players of 2019 – are still set to command massive fees and salaries.
Mane has scored 18 goals and supplied 12 assists from 38 matches in all competitions after going into the season without hardly any preparation.
The former Southampton man has been a virtual ever-present in the Liverpool side since joining in the summer of 2016.
He has scored 77 goals and provided 34 assists from 161 matches for the Reds, and was beaten only by Lionel Messi, teammate Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo in last year’s Ballon D’Or.
In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that there is a major update on the club’s pursuit of Arsenal sensation.
