Sources: Big update on Wolves appointing Lage after work permit hearing
Wolves are very confident Bruno Lage will get a work permit to become their new manager, Football Insider understands.
A deal is in place for the Portuguese manager to replace Nuno Espirito Santo but has been held up due to new Brexit rules.
However, a Wolves source has told Football Insider the club are expecting Lage to be granted a work permit by the end of today (Wednesday, June 2nd) after a hearing.
They will then be able to finalise a deal for the 45-year-old to take charge at Molineux.
As revealed by this site last week, Wolves’ pursuit of Lage hit a stumbling block due to the updated requirements for coaches in Britain.
The new red tape makes hiring foreign staff harder than under the previous rules.
It is understood Lage and his backroom staff will have to apply for a visa as a “performance manager”.
The work permit requires a degree and five years’ experience in bands one to five or at international level.
Band one covers the top five European divisions while the rest reflect the other leagues across the continent.
Lage has been out of work since leaving Portuguese giants Benfica in 2020.
He has been recommended to Wolves by super-agent and club consultant Jorge Mendes.
Wolves have offered Lage the post after it was announced Nuno would leave the club this summer.
Nuno spent four years at Molineux and helped establish the club among the Premier League after promotion from the Championship.
They finished 13th in the recently-concluded season.
