Sources: Birmingham City agree deal to sign Paik Seung-ho

Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign South Korea midfielder Paik Seung-ho on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

Paik, 26, is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

The midfielder made headlines in 2022 by scoring a stunning goal against Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar.

Birmingham boss Tony Mowbray is a big admirer of the South Korean having previously tried to sign him when he was in charge of Sunderland.

Mowbray is now finally set to land his man at St Andrew’s.

Paik made 30 appearances across all competitions for Jeonbuk last term, notching four goals and one assist.

He is no stranger to European football after coming through the youth system at Barcelona before spells at Girona and Darmstadt.

The 26-year-old has made 15 senior appearances for South Korea, scoring three goals – but is not part of their squad for the Asian Cup.

Paik can play in a variety of midfield roles, including attacking and holding – as well as out on the right flank.
