Sources: Birmingham City plot move to appoint ex-Man City boss Mark Hughes
Birmingham City are planning a surprise move for Bradford City manager Mark Hughes, sources have told Football Insider.
The hugely experienced Premier League boss, 59, took a step down to take charge of the League Two club in 2022 and has steered them into the playoffs this season.
Meanwhile, Birmingham are considering replacing John Eustace at the helm after an American consortium led by Tom Wagner completes a takeover of the club.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week (10 May) that ex-Man City chief executive Garry Cook is in talks to join the Blues.
He was spotted alongside Wagner for the final Championship game of the 2022-23 campaign against Sheffield United on Monday (8 May).
It is believed they discussed a potential executive position which would see him join a newly-formed Birmingham hierarchy once the takeover has been ratified by the EFL.
Following those talks, the club are now targeting what would be a sensational reunion between Cook and Hughes, his former manager at Man City between 2008 and 2009.
The ex-striker has an impressive managerial record, with a CV boasting almost 450 Premier League games thanks to spells with Southampton, Stoke City, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, Blackburn and Man City.

His Bradford side finished sixth in League Two this season – setting up a playoff semi-final with Carlisle which will get underway with the first leg on Sunday (14 May).
Eustace, who arrived in the St Andrew’s hot seat last summer (2022), led Birmingham to a 17th-place finish in the Championship in the 2022-23 campaign.
