Sources: Bolton Wanderers open talks to sign St Mirren star Keanu Baccus
Bolton Wanderers are locked in talks over signing St Mirren midfielder Keanu Baccus, sources have told Football Insider.
Baccus, 25, is entering the final year of his contract and Bolton are working on a deal to sign him this summer.
Negotiations are underway over what would be a permanent move.
The Australian international impressed for St Mirren last season helping them achieve their first top-six finish in the Premiership since 1985 and he also shone for Australia at the World Cup in Qatar.
The St Mirren midfielder enhanced his growing reputation with an impressive showing for his country as they reached the last 16 of the tournament.
It was after the World Cup that sources told Football insider that Rangers were also plotting a move for the midfielder (17 December).
It was believed that Baccus figured on the Ibrox club’s wanted list as they shortlisted potential targets going into last January and this summer window.
The defensive midfielder joined St Mirren on a free transfer during the summer from Western Sydney.
He made an immediate and big impact for the Buddies, where he played in 33 Scottish Premiership matches last season, and also featured once in the league cup.
Those games yielded two goals from his deep-lying position protecting the St Mirren defence.

Baccus has 12 months remaining on his contract after joining on a two-year deal.
With Bolton hoping for promotion to the Championship, bolstering the midfield by signing Baccus could be key for the League One side.
