Sources: Brentford agree deal to re-sign Mathias Jorgensen

Brentford have agreed a deal to re-sign defender Mathias Jorgensen, sources have told Football Insider.

Jorgensen, 32, has been a free agent since his one-year Bees contract expired at the end of June.

Brentford have moved to secure Jorgensen on a free transfer after injuries to Kristoffer Ajer and Ethan Pinnock.

Both Ajer and Pinnock have missed the Bees first two fixtures of the Premier League campaign.

Jorgensen is set to become Brentford’s sixth signing of the summer window.

Thomas Frank’s side have already added Keane Lewis-Potter, Aaron Hickey, Mikkel Damsgaard, Thomas Strakosha and Ben Mee to their ranks.

Jorgensen was a bit-part player for the Bees in the 2021-22 campaign after joining on a free transfer in September 2021.

He made 10 appearance across all competitions for the London club last season, eight of which came in the Premier League.

The centre-half has previously played for Fenerbahce, FC Copenhagen, FC Dusseldorf, Huddersfield and PSV Eindhoven.

Jorgensen has also been capped 35 times by his country, Denmark, and has scored twice.

The Bees have made an excellent start to the 2022-23 campaign, drawing with Leicester City and thrashing Manchester United 4-0 last Saturday (13 August).

Pontus Jansson and Ben Mee have started in the heart of the defence for both fixtures.

Next up is a trip to newly-promoted Fulham this Saturday.

Brentford are currently third in the Premier League table.
