Sources: Brentford agree to sign ex-Man United star Deji Sotona as medical begins

Brentford have agreed a deal to sign ex-Manchester United starlet Deji Sotona from OG Nice, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old is undergoing a medical at the Premier League outfit as they look to secure his signature on transfer deadline day.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Brentford have beaten off interest from a number of clubs at home and abroad to land Sotona.

The teenager will become Brentford’s second signing of deadline day following the arrival of former Tottenham and Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Sotona has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Nice.

The winger put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 side following his exit from Manchester United in September 2020.

However, he failed to break into Nice’s first team.

Therefore, the French club have given him the green light to leave before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Sotona contributed five goals and two assists in 20 appearances for Man United’s Under-18s in the 2019-20 campaign.

Brentford see potential in the teenager and hope that he can realise it under the guidance of Thomas Frank and his staff.

Sotona was recorded as Man United’s fastest player when he was on their books.

The Irish winger recorded a speed of 22.9mph while at Old Trafford – 1.2mph faster than second-quickest Diogo Dalot.

Chelsea have previously shown an interest in signing Sotona.
