Sources: Brentford to ‘break the bank’ with new Johnson offer £18m bid rejected by Nottingham Forest

Brentford are ready to return with a new club-record Brennan Johnson bid after Nottingham Forest rejected their £18m offer on Wednesday, Football Insider understands.

The Londoners have tabled a series of bids for the winger, 20, this month after making him a top target.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Brentford are prepared to break the bank to seal a deal for Johnson ahead of Monday’s cut-off.

They are planning an improved offer in the hope that Forest will change their stance that the rising star is not for sale.

Brentford are believed to have grown frustrated at the stance of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis keeps moving the goalposts over Johnson.

However, that has not stopped the Bees in their pursuit of the promising winger.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (6 January) Brentford had a £12million rejected for Johnson.

The £18million bid eclipsed the £13.5million Brentford reportedly paid for record-signing Kristoffer Ajer last summer.

The London-based outfit are prepared to raise their offer even higher in their bid to sign Johnson.

The Forest star has caught the attention of the Premier League’s elite with his performances.

Leeds United are among his other suitors, with the Yorkshire giants keeping tabs on the young attacker in recent months.

A versatile attacker who mainly plays out wide, Johnson has established himself as a Forest mainstay.

He has scored seven goals and contributed five assists in 28 Championship appearances.

Johnson’s form has seen him break into the Wales setup, with seven caps under his belt so far.

His contract at Forest runs until the summer of 2023.
