Sources: Brighton submit bid for Celtic rising star Ronan Ferns

Brighton have submitted a bid for Celtic sensation Ronan Ferns, sources have told Football Insider.

The 16-year-old centre-back has risen through the youth ranks at the Glasgow giants and regarded by the club’s coaching staff as a hugely promising talent.

Ferns is yet to sign a professional contract at Celtic, and Brighton have jumped ahead of their rivals in the race to land him by submitting an offer.

It is believed that there are a number of clubs who have scouted Ferns and registered an interest in a potential deal.

The teenage talent is usually deployed at centre-back but has also enjoyed promising stints in midfield.

Ferns has spent most of the 2022-23 season playing regularly in the Celtic Under-17s, where he has caught the eye of coaches and earned himself a reputation as a future star.

He has also gathered experience on the international stage, with Scotland Under-16s calling him up to represent his nation.

Brighton have been widely praised in recent seasons for recruiting well with a small budget.

However, the Seagulls have recently changed their head of recruitment, with Sam Jewell stepping up to the role after Chelsea lured Paul Winstanley.

Brighton has brought through a number of youngsters in recent years with Alexis MacAllister and Moises Caicedo among the club’s talented young stars.

However, Celtic will be battling hard to tempt Ferns to stay, with manager Ange Postecoglou speaking this season about his desire to form a “conveyor belt” of talent between the club’s youth squad and first team.
