Sources: Burnley in talks to sign Southampton star Tella permanently
Burnley and Southampton are in talks over a permanent move for red-hot winger Nathan Tella, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the Clarets would love to keep the 23-year-old loan star at Turf Moor following his sparkling season in the second tier.
Discussions are in the very early stages with Southampton’s Premier League status for the 2023-24 season yet to be decided.
But the south coast club are now inching closer to the drop with their 2-0 home loss against Crystal Palace on Saturday (15 April) keeping them 20th and four points from safety.
It is believed that Burnley will have to make a substantial offer for Tella‘s services as the Saints weigh up the possibility of including him in their squad for next season.
The former Arsenal ace has scored 19 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions this season with Burnley having already wrapped up their return to the Premier League.
He has played in various roles for Vincent Kompany’s side this term, including on both wings and a centre-forward berth.
Tella’s contract at Southampton is set to expire in June 2025 after he signed an extension in January 2022.
The right-footer managed one goal and two assists in 33 Premier League appearances for the Saints – most of which came as a substitute.

Kompany will have a significant war chest to spend in the summer window following Burnley’s promotion, with a deal for Tella a top priority.
The Clarets and Tella can effectively secure the Championship title with a win over Rotherham on Tuesday (18 April).
