Sources: Burnley ready to sell Wout Weghorst after Man United latest

On-loan Man United striker Wout Weghorst could return to Besiktas this summer with parent club Burnley ready to sanction a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 30-year-old’s Old Trafford loan will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (18 April) that Weghorst does not have a future at Burnley despite their promotion to the Premier League.

It is believed that the Netherlands international does not fit into the long-term plans or style of Clarets boss Vincent Kompany.

Sources told this site earlier this month (8 April) that Man United have decided not to pursue a permanent deal for Weghorst in the summer window.

The Red Devils will instead pursue a world-class striker signing in the off-season.

That has opened the door to a potential return to Turkish giants Besiktas, where the forward spent the first half of this season on loan.

It is believed they would be open to signing the former Wolfsburg striker on a permanent or loan basis.

He notched nine goals and four assists in 18 appearances for Besiktas before cutting his deal short in order to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Weghorst has managed just two goals in 22 outings since returning to England – none of which have come in the Premier League.

The striker, who cost Burnley a reported £12million in January 2022, will have two years remaining on his Turf Moor contract in June.

He earns a reported wage of just over £32,500-a-week at the Lancashire club.

In other news, Man United told £40m could seal deal for top defender target.
