Sources: Burnley submit £8.3m Azmoun bid

Burnley have submitted an £8.3million bid for Zenit St Petersburg striker Sardar Azmoun, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League outfit have made a formal move for the forward following the sale of Chris Wood to Newcastle United last week.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley have tabled the offer for Azmoun, 27, and are waiting for Zenit to respond.

The Iran international is out of contract in the summer.

He has scored 10 goals in 21 total outings for Zenit this season with two of these coming in the Champions League.

Since joining Zenit in February 2019, Azmoun has scored an impressive 62 goals in 104 games.

Azmoun also boasts an outstanding international record, scoring 39 goals in 60 total appearances for Iran.

Sean Dyche is looking for more firepower after losing Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle.

The New Zealand international has scored 10 or more goals in the last four Premier League seasons, playing a big role in the Clarets’ numerous bids to stay in the league.

As it stands, Burnley desperately need to replace Woods’ goals, having only scored 16 league goals this season,

Only Norwich have scored fewer (10).

As a result, Burnley sit bottom of the Premier League but have three games in hand on Newcastle and four games in hand on Norwich.

Their game against Watford, scheduled for Wednesday (19 January) was postponed for the second time at Burnley’s request.

They are next in action against Arsenal on Sunday (23 January).
