Celtic are in talks to sign Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson but he would have to take a major pay cut to join this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Glasgow giants are in the market for at least one new right-back and Jenkinson is on their shortlist as he enters the final year of his Gunners contract.

Celtic are holding out for a £20million-plus straight cash fee for Tierney as they prepare to overhaul their full-back positions in this window.

Jenkinson, who has also been the subject of strong interest from West Brom, features prominently on their radar but his Arsenal salary is a major hurdle for the Scottish treble winners.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider Jenkinson's £45,000-a-week deal is out of their reach and he would have to lower his demands by £15,000-a-week to agree terms.

The England international is regarded as a more viable target than the other fringe players mentioned by Arsenal.

He has accumulated just 70 appearances for the Londoners during his eight years at the club, but he has also had 18 months as a first choice at West Ham as well as a loan spell at Birmingham City.

Celtic have made right-back reinforcements a priority this summer after losing Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa and 2018-19 loanee Jeremy Toljan.
