Sources: Championship clubs race to sign Caolan Boyd-Munce after Middlesbrough exit
Championship and League One clubs are plotting moves for midfielder Caolan Boyd-Munce after his Middlesbrough exit, sources have told Football Insider.
The 23-year-old is a free agent after leaving Boro by mutual consent earlier this month as he searches for regular first-team football.
The versatile midfielder’s availability on a free transfer has alerted a number of clubs in the Championship and League One.
They see the free agent market as key to bolstering their squads with the transfer window closed.
Boyd-Munce made one Championship appearance for Middlesbrough this season but made four appearances for the under-21s side in their Premier League 2 campaign and scored one goal and provided four assists.
The Northern Irishman has remained part of the first team training group but has made just four appearances for the Championship club since joining in the January window last year.
As quoted by Teesside Live (1 February), Boyd-Munce took to social media after terminating his contract saying that it was a “really tough” decision.
Although the January transfer window has closed clubs are able to sign free agents and the 23-year-old can seek a new club.

Boyd-Munce began his professional career at Northern Ireland side Glentoran before crossing over to England with Birmingham in 2016.
He made his debut for the Blues in 2019 and went on to make nine appearances for the St Andrew’s outfit before his move to Teesside last January.
In other news, according to sources, former Liverpool chief Frank McParland is in advanced talks to join Birmingham City.
