Sources: Chelsea ready £50m Anthony Gordon bid amid new Everton twist

Chelsea are ready to increase their bid for Everton star Anthony Gordon to £50million, sources from the club have told Football Insider.

This site first broke the news at 6pm on Sunday that the London giants had submitted a £40m offer for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who is overseeing their summer spending spree, has now given the green light to a new bid for Gordon.

He has been identified as a top talent with the potential to develop and improve under Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff.

Everton’s resolve to keep hold of Gordon is now set for its most severe test after offers from Newcastle and Chelsea were knocked back.

The Blues have already lost Richarlison to Tottenham this summer and have been forced to play Gordon as an emergency striker in their opening two Premier League games.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (3 August) that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be missing for 10 weeks after tearing his lateral collateral ligament.

Gordon has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park after signing a five-year deal in 2020.

After making his debut in December 2017, the Liverpool-born ace enjoyed a breakout campaign last season and earned his first call-up to the England Under-21s squad.

He scored four goals and provided two assists in 35 Premier League appearances as the Toffees narrowly avoided relegation.

Boehly has been very busy in the transfer market in his first summer as Chelsea owner.

They have already added Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Carney Chukwuemeka to Tuchel’s squad.
