Sources: Chris Maxwell undergoing Huddersfield Town medical after deal agreed

Former Blackpool goalkeeper Chris Maxwell is undergoing a medical at Huddersfield Town on Thursday (20 July) after agreeing a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Maxwell is set to join Huddersfield on a free transfer after the completion of his medical tests.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent following the expiration of his Blackpool contract earlier this month after the club opted against exercising the 12-month option in his deal.

The Welshman spent much of his early career at Wrexham but was deployed on various loan spells for the majority of his time there.

The keeper then joined Preston in 2016 before linking up with Blackpool in 2020.

Maxwell made 28 appearances for the Bloomfield Road club last season and is closing in on 500 outings throughout his career.

The shot-stopper also captained the side to promotion in the 2020-21 campaign and would add leadership qualities as well as experience to the Huddersfield dressing room.

Speaking ahead of his departure from Bloomfield Road, Maxwell said it was an “honour and privilege” to represent the club but insisted it is time for the sides to part ways.

The goalkeeper added that captaining the side to promotion is one of the most memorable moments of his career.

Huddersfield are keen to add reinforcements between the sticks after losing number one Lee Nicholls to injury back in January which required surgery.

Back up Nicholas Bilokapic is reportedly attracting interest this summer and Peterborough United are believed to be in talks with the Championship club to take Bilokapic on loan for the upcoming campaign.
