Sources: Crystal Palace approach Roy Hodgson about surprise return
Crystal Palace have approached Roy Hodgson about a shock return as manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The London club are looking to make a swift appointment after announcing the sacking of Patrick Vieira earlier on Friday.
It is believed that Palace have made contact with Hodgson about taking over on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The former England manager, 75, is believed to be keen on returning to Palace and a deal could be formalised quickly if all parties can reach an agreement.
Hodgson was in charge of the Eagles for nearly four years between 2017 and 2021, before announcing in May of that year he would be leaving at the end of the season.
He helped the south Londoners become an established Premier League club during his reign and in 2018-19 oversaw a successful season that yielded 49 points, equalling their best ever total in a single Premier League campaign.
Following a spell out of the game, he became Watford manager in January 2022 but could not stop the club being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the camapign.
It would rank as a major surprise were Hodgson to return given his age, and the fact his style of play is dissimilar to Vieira’s.
Other names linked to the newly-vacant Palace role include Lucien Favre, who was most recently in charge of Ligue 1 Nice, and former Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton boss Rafa Benitez.

Palace travel to top-of-the-table Arsenal on Sunday, before the international break.
In April, the Eagles host Leicester City, Everton and West Ham, alongside trips to Leeds, Southampton and Wolves.
