Sources: David de Gea in advanced talks to agree Man United deal

David de Gea is in advanced talks with Man United over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spaniard has been locked in contract talks with the Red Devils throughout the season, and there is a growing confidence that he will now extend his stay at Old Trafford.

De Gea’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and United do not want to lose him for free this summer.

But the 32-year-old was also told to take a pay cut if he wanted to stay in Manchester next season.

De Gea is currently the top earner at United after seeing his wages rise to £375,000-a-week when signing his last contract offer in 2019.

But Erik ten Hag is eager to insert more organisation and wage structure behind the scenes at the club and insisted that De Gea cuts his wage demands in order to sign a new deal.

It was reported that United have introduced a wage cap of £200,000 per week to help keep the club’s biggest stars in line.

Ten Hag is a big admirer of De Gea’s leadership and experience in the dressing room, with the shot-stopper one of the longest-serving players at the club.

De Gea is spending his 12th year at Old Trafford after signing for United from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
