Sources: Everton could land devastating new punishment on top of second points deduction in shock twist
Everton could face a transfer ban on top of a points deduction if found guilty of their financial breach, sources have told Football Insider.
The Toffees have been charged with a second breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules following the release of their 2022-23 accounts.
They were handed a 10-point deduction in November after being found guilty of exceeding the allowable £105million losses over a three-year rolling period.
The Merseyside club are currently in the process of appealing the verdict in hope that the punishment will be reduced.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Everton’s 10-point deduction is likely to be reduced down to around six points.
However, sources say that Everton could now face a transfer ban as further punishment if the independent commission rules them guilty of breaching PSRs for a second time.
It is understood that the punishment could be delivered alongside another minor points deduction.
Sean Dyche’s side currently 17th in the Premier League table – just one point above the relegation spots.

A further points deduction would plunge Everton back into a relegation fight, while a transfer ban would stop them from strengthening their squad after successive seasons of saving costs and cutting the wage bill.
Everton’s wage bill ranked ninth in the Premier League at £162million when their latest 2021-22 figures were released.
