Sources: Everton star edges closer to transfer after Rangers make decision

Sevilla have joined the race to sign Everton right-back Nathan Patterson this month amid growing uncertainty about his future on Merseyside.

Patterson has started just three games so far this season, including in the FA Cup defeat against Sunderland, and there is a growing feeling he could be allowed to leave.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 24-year-old remains part of David Moyes‘ plans as things stand.

Given their lack of depth at right-back, with Jake O’Brien playing in a makeshift role, the Toffees are not willing to weaken the position unless they can land a replacement.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 19 December that Everton want to sign a right-back either in January or at the end of the season.

Sevilla join race to sign Nathan Patterson

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Rangers are unlikely to pursue Patterson, despite links with a sensational return to Ibrox for the defender.

Despite the lack of interest from Scotland, however, Sevilla and a number of Serie A clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation this month.

The decision will ultimately be made by Moyes, who sees the full-back as an important squad player given their lack of depth, despite his minimal playing time.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Patterson ends up leaving Everton.

“There’s been reported interest from Sevilla in Spain and also some clubs in Italy as well.

“But Patterson right now is probably needed by Everton because they’ve got a few injury problems.

“Jake O’Brien has been filling in there all season, but he’s been moved to centre-back while Michael Keane is suspended.

“David Moyes doesn’t want to weaken his squad. We know Everton long-term are in the market for a new right-back.

“A lot could depend on what Everton do in the market. Right back has been a problem position for them this season.”

Everton plot move to sign Arsenal star Ben White

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 11 January that Everton are interested in signing Ben White to ease their concerns about the right-back position.

However, industry expert Mick Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal will not sanction White’s exit as they have no plans to weaken their squad.

Mikel Arteta wants to keep his first-team squad together as Arsenal compete on all fronts, with silverware still at the top of the agenda at the Emirates.

Arsenal beat Porstmouth 4-1 to progress into the FA Cup fourth round, while they are also in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and Champions League knockout stages.

That, alongside competing at the top of the Premier League in hopes of finally securing the title, means the boss will block any big-name exits in January.
