Sources: Fleetwood agree to sign Portsmouth star Johnson
Fleetwood Town have agreed to sign Portsmouth defender Callum Johnson, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The right-back has been given the green light to leave Fratton Park despite being a mainstay of the team in his first season.
A Pompey source has told Football Insider that the club have accepted Fleetwood’s offer to take Johnson on a season-long loan.
That would take him to the end of his current Portsmouth contract but the club have an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
The 24-year-old has only featured once in the league this season as a late substitute against Fleetwood on the opening day.
He was shown a controversial red card against Millwall in the first round of the Carabao Cup and is therefore currently serving a suspension.
Johnson moved to Fratton Park from Accrington Stanley last season and enjoyed a good personal campaign.
He racked up 46 appearances for Pompey across all competitions as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs.
Portsmouth have added Keiron Freeman to their ranks this summer and he offers Danny Cowley more of an attacking threat.
Freeman moved to the club from Swansea City and has established himself as first-choice.
Cowley also has Haji Mnoga, 19, to call upon at right-back.

Fleetwood have started the season slowly and only picked up their first win of the season over Cheltenham Town last weekend.
They travel to Plymouth Argyle tomorrow afternoon.
In other news, the winner has been named in Portsmouth and Hearts race to sign a Bristol City player.
