Sources: Fulham in advanced talks to sign Brighton star Shane Duffy

Fulham are in advanced talks to sign Brighton defender Shane Duffy, sources have told Football Insider.

The Cottagers have turned their attention to completing a deal for Duffy, 30, as they look to recruit a proven Premier League centre-back.

Brighton have given the green light to the departure of the Republic of Ireland international amid the impending arrival of Levi Colwill.

Duffy, who had a spell on loan at Celtic during the 2020-21 campaign, made 20 appearances in all competitions for Brighton last season.

Colwill is set to join the seaside club on loan as part of the deal which will take Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for a reported £62million.

Fulham are desperate to improve their centre-back options as they aim to survive instant relegation from the Premier League following last season’s Championship title success.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 August) that Marco Silva’s side had submitted a bid for Man United defender Eric Bailly.

The top-flight newcomers have also made approaches for West Ham ace Issa Diop and Chelsea’s Malang Sarr.

Duffy is out of contract at the Amex Stadium next summer and can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January 2023.

He has amassed 113 Premier League appearances across six seasons and has also accrued experience in the Championship and Scottish Premiership.

The 55-time Republic of Ireland international came through the ranks at Everton, making his debut in 2009.
