Sources: Hibernian agree to sign Middlesbrough starlet Wood
Hibernian have agreed to sign Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Scottish Premiership high flyers have swooped for the 19-year-old after setting their sights on a new centre-back.
A Boro source has told Football Insider that a deal has been agreed for Wood to join Hibs on a season-long loan.
The teenager was also shipped out temporarily in January as he joined League One side Crewe Alexandra.
Boro have decided to let the youngster leave the Riverside Stadium once again in order to get him regular game time.
A graduate of the Middlesbrough academy, Wood has played 13 times for his hometown club so far.
His most recent appearance came in the 3-0 League Cup defeat to Blackpool earlier this month.
He was used sparingly last season, making four Championship appearances before joining Crewe on loan.
Wood played 12 times to help the north-west outfit to a mid-table finish in England’s third tier.
His performances and development have earned him a call-up to England’s under-20s for the upcoming international break.
The centre-back has already turned out for the Three Lions’ under-16s, under-17s and under-18s.
Wood is set to join a Hibernian side looking to consolidate last season’s third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.
Jack Ross’ men currently sit top of the table after two wins and a draw from their opening three games.

They sit ahead of Aberdeen and Hearts on goal difference alone.
Celtic and Rangers are one point behind after both suffering surprise defeats to Hearts and Dundee United respectively.
In other news, Middlesbrough have opened talks to sign Sheffield United star.
