Sources: Hoffenheim battle Leicester City in race for Tottenham starlet Thorpe as he exit nears
Hoffenheim have joined Leicester City in the race to sign Tottenham rising star Elliot Thorpe, Football Insider understands.
The midfielder, 20, is heading out of Spurs when his contract expires next month with attempts to tie him to an extension set to fail.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim are pushing Leicester hard for Thorpe ahead of the summer window.
The versatile young midfielder has made up his mind to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.
Thorpe, who was training with the first team when Jose Mourinho was manager, has yet to make his senior Spurs bow but has been capped by Wales at Under-19 level and accumulated extensive age-group experience.
He has been in outstanding form recently for the Spurs Under-23s side and scored twice in a 5-2 win over Liverpool on 23 April.
The interest from Leicester and Hoffenheim offers two intriguing alternatives for Thorpe.
Another gifted Spurs youngster, Ryan Sessegnon, is currently completing a season-long loan at Hoffenheim, who are 11th in the Bundesliga table.
Thorpe’s talent is well known to interim Spurs manager Ryan Mason, who had been coaching the youth team before his promotion after Mourinho’s exit.
The young midfielder two seasons with the Tottenham Under-18s, where he made 13 appearances, before graduating to the Under-23s.
It would be a blow to lose such a highly rated youngster ahead of what could be a stressful transfer market for Spurs fans.
